  • We are happy to announce that the paper “Chatbot-based Emotion Management for Distributed Teams: A Participatory Design Study” by Ivo Benke, Michael T. Knierim, and Alexander Maedche has been accepted at the CSCW 2020 and was presented at the conference virtually. The CSCW is the premier venue for presenting research in the design and use of technologies that affect groups, organizations, and communities.

In this publication, the authors shed light on the opportunities to stimulate emotional awareness and regulation within group messenger chats through chatbots as moderators. In a laboratory group experiment with three chatbot prototypes they showed that it was possible to strengthen emotional intelligence of the users and create compromise facilitation. The qualitative and quantitative results provide interesting implications for the design of such chatbots for group moderation. Meanwhile the authors also saw lack of control and transparency which provides avenues for future research.

The paper is accessible in the ACM digital library under this link.
