Problem setting

Within the SOSEC project (https://www.socialsentiment.org/en/) we compile weekly survey data using a panel on political and socially relevant topics since November 2022. Thus we have already gathered a large, multidimensional dataset that allows for highly interesting analyses.

Goal of the thesis

We want to evaluate the already collected survey data according to different methods. Some possible goals for a thesis could be:

• Interpretable Data Visualizations
  • Interpretable ML-Methods
  • Visualization of results – local and global explanations
• Statistical analysis on data (i. e. demographic or topic focused)
• Methodical overview in computational social science

Formal prerequisites

The topics are suitable for Bachelor as well as Master theses, the scope and methods can be discussed. For any questions feel free to reach out (david.borukhson∂kit.edu)! Please send us a short motivation letter and a current transcript of records. A thesis may be written either in German or in English. Starting dates can be arranged as of now.

Im Rahmen des Projektes SOSEC (https://www.socialsentiment.org/en/) wird wöchentlich seit November 2022 eine Umfrage zu politischen und gesellschaftlich relevanten Themen durchgeführt. So steht uns ein großer, vieldimensionaler Datensatz zur Verfügung, der hochspannende Analysen erlaubt.

Ziel der Arbeit

Der bereits erhobene Datensatz soll nach verschiedenen Methoden ausgewertet warden. Mögliche Ziele für eine Arbeit können sein:

• Interpretierbare Visualisierung von Daten
  • Interpretierbare ML-Methoden
  • Visualisierung errechneter Ergebnisse – lokale und globale Erklärungen
• Statistische Untersuchungen des Datensatzes (insb. demographisch, thematisch)
• Methodischer Überblick in Computational Social Science

Formale Anforderungen

Die Themen sind für Bachelor- wie Masterarbeiten geeignet, der Umfang und die Methodik kann entsprechend besprochen werden. Bei Fragen gerne melden  (david.borukhson∂kit.edu)! Bitte senden Sie uns ein kurzes Motivationsschreiben mit einer aktuellen Notenübersicht. Eine Arbeit kann sowohl auf Deutsch wie auch auf Englisch verfasst werden. Startzeitpunkt der Abschlussarbeit ist ab sofort.
