My work comprises the interdisciplinary research on and evaluation of the development of an Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) for identifying and combating online disinformation with two research foci: The first research focus, namely “Understanding Online Disinformation,” focuses on understanding the phenomenon of disinformation in the digital space to be able to take appropriate measures to combat the phenomenon. The second research focus, namely “Combating Online Disinformation,” deals with the evaluation of a measure to combat disinformation campaigns: an XAI, which shall recognize “Fake News” and warn users about its possible occurrence. In particular, this focus lays on investigating the XAI’s potential effect on fostering critical media literacy and trust among its users.

I am a member of the House of Participation (HoP), an FZI competence center fostering digital participation and democracy. At HoP, we focus on creating impactful digital interactions that enable all individuals to participate in decision-making across various spheres including the workplace, social life, cultural sector and political matters.
