Tätigkeiten

My research focuses on economic modeling and decentral coordination approaches for smart grids. For this work I mainly focus on agent-based modeling to represent relevant smart grid actors (electric vehicles, storage systems, controllable loads). I subsequently derive appropriate coordination mechanisms (pricing, reservation schemes) whose effectiveness is driven by the self-interest of the autonomous agents using game theory and other economic tools. Finally, these models and mechanisms are evaluated using economic models and multi-agent systems. My research was presented at academic IS and energy conferences and has appeared in scholarly journals like European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR) and Business & Information Systems Engineering (BISE). I serve as a reviewer for EJOR, Energy Policy, Electronic Markets IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid as well as an ad-hoc reviewer and PC committee member for different IS conferences (ICIS, ECIS, AMCIS, WI, MKWI, IEEE CBI).

Besides my research I helped establishing a Master’s course on smart grid systems and economics in the faculty of business engineering and economics. I am also involved in different industry projects on grid integration and service engineering for electric vehicles. Moreover, I serve in a smart grid expert group of the Federation of German Industry (BDI) which aims at developing a coherent policy agenda for smart grid activities in Germany.
